This prestigious recognition celebrates Mitzi’s remarkable support for libraries and librarians and reflects her unwavering commitment to advancing literacy, community engagement, and educational initiatives.
Mitzi’s journey of service and dedication to education and community involvement spans decades, reflecting her deep-rooted passion for enriching lives and fostering growth. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for her impactful career. Mitzi graduated from Highland High School and is a distinguished alumna of Snow College and the University of Utah. She later earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Utah State University.
As an educator, Mitzi’s contributions were exemplary, earning her the 2004 Wasatch County School District’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Her dedication to nurturing young minds extended beyond the classroom, shaping futures and instilling a love for learning.
Mitzi's community spirit is palpable through her extensive volunteer work, notably as a docent at This Is The Place Heritage Park, where her portrayal of pioneer characters captivated audiences for nearly a decade. Her commitment to preserving Utah's rich history and heritage earned her recognition as an Outstanding Volunteer at This Is the Place in 1998.
Her involvement with the Wasatch County Library Board is a testament to her unwavering dedication. Leading up to the opening of the new library and senior center facility in 2004, Mitzi played a pivotal role in securing its funding, demonstrating her leadership and vision. Under her guidance, the library flourished as a vital community hub, offering expanded services and opportunities for growth.
Mitzi recently spearheaded the Smithsonian Institution's Crossroads: Change in Rural America exhibition hosted at the Wasatch County Library, further underscoring her commitment to promoting cultural enrichment and community dialogue. Her collaborative efforts with local institutions and passionate advocacy ensured the exhibition's success, leaving an indelible mark on Wasatch County.
